Litigation Director
DIRECTOR OF LITIGATION
New Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) is seeking a Director of Litigation. The Director of Litigation is an important member of the NMLA management team and plays a leadership role in assisting NMLA achieve its mission and goals.
NMLA is a statewide legal services program that provides free legal services to financially eligible clients on various legal issues and matters affecting low income people. The Director of Litigation develops, implements and manages the legal work plan and activities of the organization including strategies for legal advocacy on issues affecting the poor, expertise for complex litigation and systemic advocacy, efficient legal services delivery among a network of providers, collaboration with access to justice commission and state bar, and coordination of pro bono activities.
The Director of Litigation reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the NMLA office managers and other program staff to implement the legal work plan and program activities related to the provision of legal services to the low income community of New Mexico. The Director of Litigation performs responsibilities in accordance with NMLA policies and procedures, and Legal Services Corporation regulations and laws.
Requirements: J.D Degree, NM Bar Membership preferred or pass the bar within six (6) months of hire, ten (10) years of prior litigation experience in both federal and state courts, strong leadership, communications (oral and written), and organizational skills; professional demeanor; computer literacy, and a demonstrated commitment to provision of legal services to poor people.
