Foreclosure Defense Project Paralegal

Santa Fe, Roswell and Las Cruces, New Mexico

 

New Mexico Legal Aid seeks candidates to serve as a foreclosure defense project paralegal. The position may be based in either Las Cruces, Santa Fe, or Albuquerque. Primary funding for the project is being provided by the New Mexico Attorney General’s office, and is expected to continue for up to three years.

 

The project paralegal will work closely with a team of three foreclosure defense attorneys within NMLA, and will also have opportunities to collaborate with other foreclosure defense attorneys based at United South Broadway and at the Senior Citizens Law Office in Albuquerque, and at DNA-People’s Legal Services in Farmington.  The NMLA project team will focus primarily on cases originating in rural communities and small cities throughout the state. Case work will include systemic pattern cases strategically selected to address issues of significant importance to our clients. The project paralegal’s job duties will include: preparing pleadings, supporting discovery activities, document review, client interviews and other litigation support activities.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate and strongly committed to helping NMLA better serve our client community, including development of effective team strategies to handle complex advocacy and extended representation cases. 

 

Requirements:  Candidates must have a paralegal degree or at least three years’ experience involving significant litigation support activities, good research and writing skills, and good organizational abilities. Experience with foreclosure defense work or related consumer law issues will be highly preferred. Candidates also must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, manage a significant caseload and build collaborative relationships within the staff and the community.  Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
